I'm super happy to share with you the news that I was gifted the silhouette
I was dreaming of for Christmas this year. (thanks Mom & Dad!!) I've been whipping out projects left and right, so I wanted to share a taste of what I've been up to...
I've been wanting to label our kitchen canisters for awhile now, but since most of them have a clear 'window' I wasn't sure the best way to approach the situation. I'd browsed around pinterest and found a few inspiring photos to get me headed in the right direction:
None of those ideas would work for me exactly as they were, but I was finally starting to form a direction of where I wanted to go with it. I used my silhouette to cut the words 'sugar' 'flour' and 'coffee' out of silver vinyl. Then I searched awhile to find a font that I liked, and set up my page size to cut. I'd measured each canisters window so I'd know how large to make the font for each one so it would fit perfectly within the window.
I'll share the how-to details on getting the vinyl from the silhouette machine onto the canisters in another post. Coffee was the first one I tried to label, which is why it's not exactly perfect. I plan to re-do it shortly :)
I love that red piggie <3
I owe you a photo of the canisters once they're full. I was out of both flour and sugar to fill these back up with, but they're much more readable when full! (and in person) So far I've been really happy with them. I've had to wipe down the canisters several times and the vinyl has held up really well for me.
I also used this as an opportunity to dress up our 'hot beverage station' a bit as well. I'd picked up this cute plastic coffee place-mat (photo above) awhile back and cut it down to size using a paper template to make sure it would fit snugly into the white tray. I didn't secure it with anything so I can carefully peel it up and wash it every once and awhile.
I got some red washi in my Christmas stocking and used it create a cute polka dot border around the edge of the plain white tray. Red has become the 'color' for accessories in our kitchen so it ties in with a lot of other things we've got going on.
I've been in a major mood to craft ever since the weather turned cold on us! Have you been creating or crafting anything lately? I'd love to hear about it....
Those do look nice. Glad you're loving it!

Thanks Jod! I'm honored you took the time to comment, what with the new baby keeping you busy and all! :)
DeleteKaitlin,
ReplyDeleteThese look so nice! And I love the tray as well. The washi tape is terrific on the edge. I have a similar tray that I want to make over but wasn't sure what to do and now I do! Yeah! Thanks for sharing.
Maureen
Thanks Maureen! I thought the washi tape was such a fun solution, and it makes the tray look more polished overall. I'm sure yours will turn out lovely :)
DeleteI love this so much! Especially the washi tape idea!
ReplyDeleteJodi- Thanks! I'm trying to incorporate washi tape in as many ways possible! It's so cute! Removable labels w/washi tape is next
